283. Test the Spirits Around You to see if they are From God

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1 NIV

Don't just trust every spirit. Test. Compare to scriptural teaching. Know your Bible.

God wants us to test the spirits of those around us to see if they are from Him.
Baptism fills you with God's Spirit (Acts 2:38), thereby eliminating all other spirits.
Covenant people learn to recognize the Spirit of the Covenant-Giver in others.
Satan's demonic forces are active in the lives of the people all around us.
It's quite possible to discern the spiritual condition of people around you.
Heaven's Spirit indwells every Christian, but hell's spirits are in others.
Creator God has faithful spirits (in the unseen), and unfaithful ones.
You can quite literally test the spirits of the people around you.

Lord, give me the spiritual discernment so I'll know when

it's important to do this, and the courage to ask

the question when it's necessary.
